About Northstar
A quick check for everyday connections.
Northstar provides a short, browser-based network quality check from Stockholm, Sweden. It is a rough comparison tool, not a certified measurement of your connection's maximum capacity.
What the test measures
Latency is the median of five small requests. Download and upload throughput are estimated using samples of up to 16 MiB each. Upload data is discarded; there is no account or stored test history.
Reading the results
Wi-Fi, browser activity, congestion, and distance to the test node can all change your result. Compare results from the same device at similar times, and use more than one measurement before drawing conclusions.
Looking-glass files
The larger static files on the home page are provided for longer route and transfer checks. They are rate-limited, served without compression, and may be unavailable during maintenance.
